Day by Day is a three—day immersion into the urgent and complex topic that is climate change today. In the past few years, we’ve seen how steeply the planet’s biodiversity has quickly degenerated before us. The reduction of carbon emissions is central to ensuring a more sustainable future for San Francisco and the world. It is crucial to educate the younger generation about the effects of climate change that are already threatening our health, our communities, our economy and our security. It’s important to remember that even though, personal action is no substitute for government policies, contributions made by private citizens can create a meaningful difference.

PROJECT
EVENT DESIGN
OBJECTIVE
To create an eye catching and memorable brand image that will successfully communicate the urgency and importance of climate change while also communicating the viewer that this is a fun and dynamic family friendly event.
APPROACH
This event powerfully combines art and activism. Visual arts and performance have always been central to protest and resistance movements in San Francisco. Posters, street theatre, music and symbolic actions are part of the vocabulary of calls for social and political change. Moreover, type designer Erik Spiekermann and a team of students revised and redesigned five historic alphabets from the legendary Bauhaus school of design. Reross is a geometric sans, equipped with different historic influences and contemporary features. This perfectly encapsulates the message of the event in terms of the environment. Look back, reflect, take action and make changes.
